Introduce

GFS Chemicals, Inc. is a manufacturer of organic and inorganic specialty chemicals for industrial and laboratory applications. We offer over 4000 items in our catalog covering a wide range of laboratory needs for both analytical and research chemists. We provide quality products backed with technical knowledge and experience to give our customers a complete source for laboratory chemicals. We are an ISO 9001:2000 certified company.

We are committed to the health, safety and protection of our associates, our community and our environment. To this end, we support ongoing activities, especially those relating to continual improvement, which minimizes risks to our associates and neighbors, as well as its potential impacts on the environment.

Organics Liquid Ammonia Chemistry
Our liquid ammonia technologies enable the synthesis of long chain olefinic pheromones and precursors. This includes various 10,12,14 and 16 carbon olefinic alcohols, acetates and aldehydes, long chain diynoic acids as well as liquid ammonia/alkali metal chemistries for the production of alkynes and olefins. Also, specialty alkylations are run in this facility. Unleash the power of alkynes in latest synthesis project. Dozens of silyl/THP/stannyl protected acetylenes from mono-acetylenes, alkyn-ols, halo-silyl alkynes, silyl ene-yn-ols covering the needs from R&D to commercialization.

Periodic Acid
Our Periodic acid is a versatile compound in applications ranging from electronics (Chemical Mechanical Planarization) to Pharmaceutical Intermediates. Reagent used for selective oxidations in organic synthesis. Also used as iodine source and in silk screen applications. Utilizing electrolytic chemistry, we manufacture material with a purity > 99.95 avoiding trace metal impurities to poison synthetic organic reaction mechanisms. Available in solution or crystalline form.

Ceric ammonium nitrate
Our Ceric Ammonium Nitrate is perhaps the most versatile rare earth salt used today and has commercial uses in electronics, specialty ceramics, superabsorbants, Chemical Mechanical Planarization and numerous Pharmaceutical processes.

Lithium Perchlorate
Our Lithium Perchlorate (anhydrous) is a proven component of lithium ion batteries. In addition, its preliminary use in ionic liquids and fuel cell research shows promise of being an economical replacement for LiPF6 and LiBF4. Recent chemical literature describes a growing arsenal of synthetic methodologies involving lithium and magnesium perchlorates. We have used the 5M LPDE reagent to run multi-molar scale reactions between isoprene and maleic anhydride; the reactions ran smoothly, but additional tests remain to be run to better understand issues pertaining to the isolation and reclamation of the lithium perchlorate salt.
The advantages of these methodologies are obvious:

  • Perchlorate salts promote chemistries that are not possible with other reagents
  • Dramatic improvement of reaction rates and selectivities are common
  • Chemistries of interest can be developed apart from the LPDE reaction medium
  • The concept of "naked ion" Li+ chemistries in organic media has broad synthetic implications

Sodium Biphenyl (OHR)
Our Organic Halogen Reagent is a viscous, dark blue solution of sodium biphenyl complex in diethylene glycol diethyl ether (ethyl diglyme). The product has a limited shelf life, losing strength during storage at a rate of about 3-10% per month. The reagent should be stored in a cool place but not refrigerated. Cold storage, which may include shipping during winter months, can result in partial crystallization of the reagent that can then adhere to the surface of the plastic bottles in which it is packaged.

MSDS

MSDS are normally produced by the manufacturer of the product. So any customer can get the MSDS from the manufacturer/supplier of the product. Some universities and businesses have a collection somewhere on their website. We will give some internet-sources MSDS contain information on the properties of chemicals. Mainly they contain basic information to insure the safety and health of the user at all stages of its manufacture, storage, use and disposal.
